You Can’t Deactivate Destiny

Married In 2024

If you’ve had a read of any of our previous articles, you’ll begin to notice a common theme; the perfect match always comes when they least expect it.

Tasnim had been on the app for a few months with no luck. Having been disappointed by the options available, she resigned to deactivating her account, believing that her naseeb would find another way to her…

… bet you’ve already guessed where this is going.

As she opened the app for what she thought would be the final time, a new like appeared on her activity page, and she resolved to give it one final go.

His profile was simple but effective. A good variety of pictures with a well thought out bio, complete with a list of interests and all the necessary information about his plans for marriage. He didn’t play any games, and didn’t feign apathy, as many men often do to appear more mysterious (honestly, stop doing this guys).

Their first meet up went perfectly. Any nerves that they had going into it dissipated immediately, and a unique sense of familiarity overcame them both. There was no awkwardness, no forced conversation, just an overwhelming sense of calm.

Knowing that she had finally found the one and that time was working against them, she introduced him to her mother that same day.

Raheel was only scheduled to stay in Canada for another two weeks before returning to Australia, only having been there to visit his brother. His parents were also due to head back to Pakistan, so the race was on to get engaged.

Within a matter of days, they met siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews. By the end of the first week, the entire extended family on both sides had been crossed off the list, and all that was left to do was go ring shopping. And propose. And plan an entire wedding… Nothing too crazy, right?

But wasting time wasn’t on either of their agendas.

Their parents agreed that they should get married before he returned to Australia, so the following week, on the 22nd November 2024, they held their Nikah.

Their union was celebrated by friends and family in a whirlwind Walima the next day, and just three days after that, Raheel was back on a flight to Australia.

He left home with a few bags and came back with a wife… talk about a productive trip.

The next few weeks were spent flying back and forth battling to secure Raheel’s Canadian citizenship, but despite the chaos, they managed to find peace in each other’s presence.

What could have been a nightmare of logistics and last minute planning became one of the best memories of their lives. A whirlwind ceremony surrounded by two families who all stepped up to contribute in all the right ways, whether it was cousins volunteering to DJ, or mum’s friend baking a surprise wedding cake.

So to those of you still searching, Tasnim will be the first to tell you:
