From Toronto to Glasgow: A South Asian Love Story

Married In 2023

Mahdia and Farhan are sitting in front of an opulent fountain

Mahdia moved to London in 2021 to begin her Master’s degree. She didn’t expect to find her future husband a few months later, let alone on an app.

But sometimes, the most meaningful love stories begin with a simple like, salaam, and an open heart.

“I got on Muzz not long after settling in. I wasn’t on there very long before I matched.” Farhan, an architect from Glasgow, had been using Muzz on and off for a couple of months. He spotted Mahdia’s profile and made the first move with a Super Like. “I didn’t think she’d match with me!” he laughs. “But she did. And the rest is history.”

Their conversation flowed from the start. What began as a chat on Muzz quickly turned into something more serious, long talks off the app, visits between London and Glasgow, and eventually, involving their parents and families.

By 2023, Farhan proposed to Mahdia in one of the UK’s most breathtaking spots, the Seven Sisters Cliffs.

“It was such a thoughtful moment, it felt full circle. From meeting online to standing on those cliffs together… it was surreal.”

Love and Identity

Both Mahdia and Farhan come from Pakistani backgrounds, and their relationship is rooted in a shared cultural understanding. Mahdia was born in Pakistan, raised in Canada, and has lived in multiple countries before settling in the UK. Farhan grew up in Glasgow, deeply connected to both his South Asian roots and his Scottish upbringing.

Their story is a fitting tribute to love and shared roots. It comes during South Asian Heritage Month, a time to honour who we are and how we find each other.

“For both of us, Muzz felt like the right space,” Mahdia says. “We weren’t just looking to date casually, we were looking with purpose, and we knew what we valued.”

Finding Meaning in a Modern Way

Apps can feel overwhelming. But Mahdia and Farhan appreciated that Muzz wasn’t just another app; it felt intentional. It gave them the space to meet safely, without pressure, and move at their own pace.

They’re not alone. Muzz has evolved to support serious searchers like them:

No more ghosting: Users can only have up to 5 active chats, helping conversations stay intentional.

72-hour expiry on matches: If no one starts the conversation, the match disappears, encouraging people to act on real interest.

Smarter safety: From ID verification to better moderation, the platform keeps users safe while they focus on what matters.

Fewer distractions. More direction.

This is why we build

Farhan and Mahdia’s story is more than a match; it’s a reminder of what’s possible when technology meets tradition and people move with respect and purpose.

“We moved for our careers. We logged on with curiosity. And we found each other.”

From a Super Like in 2021 to a proposal on the cliffs, their journey is one of many that inspire the work we do at Muzz every day.

To everyone searching: your story could be next.
