How to Deal with Rejection on Muslim Dating and Marriage Apps

September 1, 2023

It's hard dating online these days. Rejection on dating apps is higher than ever. With swipe fatigue, paradox of choice and poorly designed profiles (more on this soon, watch this space) it’s harder than ever to find that right match. We can all relate to being in the position of not getting that message back or not securing a second date because rejection is just a natural aspect of dating. Not even just dating online but just dating in general and to both guys and girls. But the important thing to remember is being polite and respectful when dealing with the person who is doing the rejecting, even if they’ve just annoyingly ghosted you. I know what you’re thinking though, they’ve just epically upset you and you want to have the last word, but trust us, it’s never worth it. Luckily, we’re here to help you fight through the urge to reply back with all the nasty phrases you can think of, and have five tips on how to deal with rejection on dating apps.

“O you who believe, seek help through patience and prayer.
Surely, Allah is with those who are patient.” (Q. 2:153)

Looking for your soulmate?

You won’t find your soulmate on this blog post but you might find them on Muzz - the world’s biggest Muslim dating and marriage app.

1. It's them, not you

Okay, so maybe sometimes it might be about you and the fact that you’re just not their type. But the dating app world, even the halal ones like Muzz, is rife with choice. There’s just so many potential fish in the sea that they might have found someone who suits them a bit better. The good news is that this means that you’ll find someone who is better suited for you as well. Think of it as meant to be that they rejected you, because you’ve essentially dodged a bullet. Why would you want to be with someone who doesn’t want you?

2. Keep an open mind

You remember when we said there are plenty of fish in the sea? Well one important tip on how to deal with rejection on dating apps is to keep this in mind when you’ve been rejected by someone. Just because you’ve been rejected by one, doesn’t mean you’ve been rejected by all. It’s best to stay positive and stay open to new people and new situations because you never know who might come along. More importantly, no one wants to be with a bitter person, so try and learn to let go of the past because it doesn’t define your future.

3. Take a dating app break!

Online dating is time consuming and all encompassing. You can sometimes go through phases where you wake up and check your Muzz profile and go to sleep thinking about your chats that day. That routine really takes a toll on you. So if you’ve been dealing with a lot of rejection lately or just really disheartening dates, maybe it’s time to take a week or two off. Self care is super important; make sure you put yourself first, take some me time and treat yourself (Check out our blog post here, on self care tips; Muzz edition). Don’t worry, Muzz will be waiting for you when you’re ready to start again!

4. Use the rejection to learn and grow

Being rejected can be the perfect opportunity to grow as a person. Perhaps you communicate in certain ways that aren’t compatible with some types of people. You can use this experience to either adjust how you go about dating online or it simply means you know that you have certain needs that you can’t compromise. You need that consistent communication and someone who is expressive. Well rejection can be that push you need to be firm in what you want in a partner.

5. Don't confront the person who rejected you

This doesn’t tend to be the advice that people give for most things in life because being direct is always beneficial. In this case however, it’s never going to work out the way you want it too. Asking why someone isn’t replying to your messages, or doesn’t want to go on that second date will only end up with you getting hurt. And definitely don’t message them saying anything hurtful; treat others how you would want to be treated.

Ultimately, being rejected on a dating app isn't the end of the world and hopefully you'll come out the other side more self-aware. Maybe if the rejection is becoming a pattern you need to switch up your profile or the first message you send. But as long as you keep trying to make those genuine connections, you'll find your perfect other half in no time.
