Challenging Times. A message from Muzz.

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful

It’s safe to say that we find ourselves in uncharted waters. COVID-19 has changed the world as we know it and we must do our part to get back to normal (or at least a new normal).

Looking for your soulmate?

You won’t find your soulmate on this blog post but you might find them on Muzz - the world’s biggest Muslim dating and marriage app.

muzz

At Muzz, the safety and wellbeing of our community - our 2 million members, and our team in London - are at the centre of everything we do. In such uncertain times, community really matters. And to keep our community safe, we ask for your help, as the only way to get past the worst is by working together.

Recent data has been published that Muslim households may be the most vulnerable to coronavirus. This follows the news that many mosques around the UK are continuing to hold Friday congregations for prayer despite government advice to avoid all large gatherings. With increasing numbers of those infected and the number of deaths from coronavirus, we encourage Muslims to remember their Islamic duty to protect one another from harm.

In the face of coronavirus, the Muzz team, headquartered in London, has moved online to sustain our community of people and ideas. Over the last week, our entire 30 strong team members are now all working from home and are supporting one another from afar in order to flatten the curve of COVID-19. We urge you to do the same.

Please stay at home, and practice social distancing. We realise that the Muslim community can find the idea of self-isloation harder than others. We tend to eat together (often from the same plates), live with our elders and visit our mosques weekly. Our love for our fellow Muslim brothers and sisters is one of our strengths, but we must find new ways to uphold this.

So here are some tips from us on staying safe, staying sane and strengthening your Iman during these challenging times.

Remember… You Can Still Go Outside! 🌞

According to the World Health Organisation, individuals can ensure social distancing by maintaining ‘at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing’. So going for a walk or run outside is perfectly safe as long as you don’t get too close to others.

But Muzz Meetups Can Wait 👩‍❤️‍👨

While we want you to continue your search for a life partner, we also do not want our members putting themselves in danger. Use this time to connect to others on Muzz through chatting and really get to know the people you’re interested in. There will always be time to meet them in person when this is all over inshAllah.

Go into Quran'tine 🙏

There has been no better opportunity to reconnect with ourselves and with our faith. This ‘sentence’ to stay at home is in fact an enormous blessing from Allah and an opportunity to return back to our faith. Continue to pray your salah (at home), especially Fajar and Isha now that there are no more commutes to work. Do as our Prophet (SAW) did and fast Mondays and Thursdays. Use the time you would have seen friends or gone out to eat to now reflect on your religion, repent your sins and recite the Quran. Indeed Allah will reward you for your efforts inshAllah.

Help Others in More Vulnerable Situations 💜

Continue to check in with your family and friends through digital means, especially elders who may be in more extreme self-isolation circumstances (a quick facetime does wonders!). Offer to help your neighbours by slipping notes under their doors with your number and an offer to help deliver groceries or other necessities.

Practice Self-Care 💆‍♀️

With constant news updates, endless social media posts, and recommended social distancing, our collective anxiety levels are high. Now, more than ever, we need to take care of ourselves and our communities. At its core, self-care is an opportunity to check in with yourself, a way to self-soothe, and a reminder that you are worthy of joy. So continue with your passions at home, maybe learn a new skill, or reduce your screen time and read a new book.

Lots of love and duas from Muzz ❤️
